Everything the democrats believe in (women's equality, religious tolerance and secularism, freedom of artistic expression, an initiative for alternative to oil, and world peace) are all the exact opposite of what the terrorists advocate. It's Bush and his gang of thugs that re-enforce terrorist though. Every Abu Ghraibe and torture scandal only rallies more terrorists.Every buisness deal that big oil companies like Halliburton and Exxon make with the Saudis only rallies more terrorists. Every oil pipeline craeted in the middle east by Bush's oil friends only creates more terrorism. The bottom line is that the republicans are the ones encouraging terrorism. Why aren't the democrats pointing any of this out? Why are they so scared to call the republicans out for what they really are: terrorists!

Evidence Of A Dictatorship, A People's Republic No More

Last week, Bush finally vetoed his first bill, after five years of being in office. Good for him. The only problem though is that HE VETOED A BILL THAT OVER 75% OF AMERICANS SUPPORT! This isn't an issue like abortion where the country is evenly polarized, this is something that a clear majority of Americans agree on. Even the republican-led senate voted 63 to 37 in favor of it. What does this mean from a political standpoint?

Any elementary school history or political science textbook will say that the purpose of a democratically-based republic (as we have here in the United States) is to represent the people. We live in a republic where we elect officials to create and enforce laws based upon what the majority of America wants. If more than half of Americans did not support stem cell research, then Bush's veto would not be out of the realm of what a democratically-based republic is intended to be. Even if there was a 50-50 divide on public opinion on stem cell research, as there is on abortion, then Bush's veto would not have been so inappropriate. However, Bush vetoed something that a very clear majority of America wants (no, not Bush's 51% election result "mandate" majority, a real majority).

The fact of the matter is that Bush vetoed this not because the majority of the people that he's supposed to represent wanted him to veto it, but because of Bush's own ideology. This is very scary because the purpose of a representative republic is that the elected officials are supposed to cater to the wishes of the majority of the voting public, regardless of their own ideological values! If it's Bush's ideology to go around punching people in the face, he shouldn’t actually enforce that unless a clear majority want that. If Bush doesn't like stem cell research, his hands are still supposed to be tied if three quarters of America (both the public and the governing politicians) are in favor of it. Yet Bush let his own ideology get in the way of a bipartisan issue that most Americans support. Disappointing for a guy who's supposed to represent what the people want. A politician with absolute power that will sign legislation based on his own personal ideology, regardless of weather or not the majority of the public supports it is a dictator. By giving the finger to 75% of the American public and to a strong bipartisan majority in congress, Bush abandoned his roll as president and took up the position of a dictator.

Why Switch to Renewable Energy?

1. Global Warming
The effects of automotive exhaust is having a dangerously dramatic effect on the entire world ecosystem. Global warming is not just a threat to the human race, but to every species, every form of macroscopic life on the planet. With each passing day that we continue to needlessly and senselessly burn fossil fuels, we throw this plenet off of its natural thermal equilibrium. This is a huge crisis that our species has to answer for! We cannot wait any longer while hurricanes worsen each year and snow caps melt. The hole in the ozone layer is now significantly larger than the entire landmass of North America. Don't believe me? Ask someone in New Zealand what it's like to live without an ozone layer above them. This is something that needed to be fixed yesterday! This is the single most important issue on the planet right now and a concensus to combat it has to be bipartisan. Argue about tax cuts and social security all you want. Global warming is real and it needs to be addressed and taken seriously now. More seriously than we take any other political issue.

I will post more on the topic of Global Warming later. This is the biggest issue facing the human race right now and obviously it cannot all be outlined in one post. In the meantime, if you see a Hummer then take an ax to it!

2. The Economy
The average American spends $35 a week on gasoline. Can you imagine what would happen to the economy if we didnt need to invest that kind of money on this out-dated 19th century fuel source? That's money that could be re-circulated into the economy. The $35 a week that the average American would save is substancially more money than what the average American saves from Bush's tax cuts. In some places, the high gas prices are really taking a toll on the public.

In my home town of LA, there are people that have to schlep all the way across the city twice a day. Due to insane overpopulation in that town, finding a house/apartment/cardboard box is extremely scarce. Many people have no choice but to live on the opposite side of town from where they work. With old roads that have not been redesigned to adjust for the dramatic increase in population, many people there have to spend at least two hours in the car a day. That requires a lot of money for gas which is especially difficult for those who barely have enough money anyway to pay the bills and feed their familys. Why pay so much money? So Lee Raymond can retire with nearly $400 million dollars? Fuck that and fuck him!

3. Job Creation
Lets face the facts, when a new industry is created, a collossal number of new jobs are created with it. Do you have any idea how many new jobs would be created if we made renewable energy mainstream? It wouldn't be just one industry but many. let's take a look at some of what these new powerhouse industries would include:

- Solar Power
(Jobs for mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, materials engineers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, management and business personell, accountants, technicians, administrators, janitors, software designers, technical writers, etc)

- BioMass
(Jobs for farmers, land owners, mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, materials engineers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, management and business personell, accountants, technicians, administrators, janitors, software designers, technical writers, etc)

- Wind Power
(Jobs for mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers, materials engineers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, management and business personell, accountants, technicians, administrators, janitors, software designers, technical writers, etc)

- GeoThermal
(Jobs for mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, materials engineers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, management and business personell, accountants, technicians, administrators, janitors, software designers, technical writers, etc)

- Nuclear Fusion Power
(Jobs for nuclear Engineers, mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers, materials engineers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, management and business personell, accountants, technicians, administrators, janitors, software designers, technical writers, etc)

4. Preservation of oil for plastics

There are some out there who would say "what about the oil industries? the economy would be hurt if an industry as big as oil was removed". Calm down, remember that plastics (that material that is used everywhere in daily life) is also made from oil. water bottles, digital watches, car parts, cell phones, nearly everything in the market is made from plastic which is made from oil. So the oil industry won't be destroyed from new technology since we use oil for non-burning purposes. In fact, this would help preserve big oil because by only using it for making materials, we won't run out of it as fast. This will ensure that we have enough oil to make plastics long into the future. Sure Exxon won't be making $75 billion a year like they are now, but they'll still make plenty of profit.

5. Terrorism
Let's face the facts people, the war in Iraq is about oil. Halliburton and Exxon are making endless billions of dollars profit from it and thw two clowns that launched this illegal and immoral war (Bush and Cheney) are both very high profile oilmen. The whole reason we do business with theocratic fascist countries like the Sharia-law ruled Saudi Arabia is because we have oil dealings with them. We even have military bases there to protect those oil fields and you know what happens when we put those military bases on "holy muslim land"? That's right, terrorism! Keep in mind that fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Osama Bin Laden (you know, the guy who's family has had oil dealings with the Bush family since the 1970s) is also from Saudi Arabia. In fact, 7% of our economy comes from Saudi oil money. But who are these people that we're doing business with? Here's a quick summary of our biggest astern oil partner:

- The vast majority of anti-American terrorists reside in Saudi Arabia over the other Middle Eastern Islamic countries.

- Any citizen caught publicly practicing any religion in Saudi Arabia other than orthodox Islam is punishable by torture and execution. For example, Sadeq Mallallah was a Saudi executed for merely owning a Bible.

- Islamic Shari’a is enforced by “religion police” known as the Mutaween who’s job is to arrest any citizen who is not properly practicing orthodox Islam. To give an idea of the extent of religious Mutaween enforcement in Saudi Arabia, on March 11, 2002 the Mutaween prevented schoolgirls from escaping from their burning school in Mecca because the girls were not wearing headscarves and traditional black robes, which resulted in the deaths of fifteen girls.

- Homosexuals are executed under Shari’a law

- Women are considered to be the property of their husband or father.

- Women are not allowed to vote.

- Women are often imprisoned or executed if they are in public without their traditional headscarves and black robes.

- The Government requires noncitizens to carry Iqamas, or legal resident identity cards, which contain a religious designation for "Muslim" or "non-Muslim."

- Anyone with an Israeli stamp on their passport (including non-Israelis who have only visited Israel) is not allowed into Saudi Arabia.

- Many immigrants from Africa and Asia are trafficked for the purpose of labor exploitation or involuntary servitude. Many of these involuntary workers suffer from abuse, non-payment or delayed payment of wages, the withholding of travel documents, restrictions on their freedom of movement and non-consensual contract alterations.

- The Saudi Arabian government publishes and distributes many books and articles promoting anti-Semitism. All Saudi Arabian government newspapers state that hatred of all Jews is justifiable.

A pretty shady business partner if you ask me. Let's also remember that the Taliban also has had numerous multi-million dollar business deals with oil companies like Halliburton, (thanks Dick, you dick!).

I will post another essay outlining the relationship between terrorism and american oil companies later.

I could write a thesis on anyone of these topics. But the point is that we need to get off of our heroine-like oil addiction now. I therefore call upon all engineers, all scientists, and all of the technically skilled people reading this to start researching. If you are not an engineer or scientist, than call your congressman, call your scientific friends, call everyone you know and inform them of our need to start pushing research in renewable energy. Regardless of your professional and political background, make yourself heard by shouting as loud as you can that we need renewable energy and we need it now. Do your part to help make a difference.
